Hello CTY friends,
I’m up on the blog today to share with you another layout using our awesome Cut Files. Boss lady Gwen set a challenge for the DT this month – she wanted us to use one of our Cut Files as a stencil. Challenge accepted!
I decided to use the Heart Blocks Background File as my stencil. I began by covering the Cut with gesso, and then let it dry. I then mixed up some modelling paste with some acrylic paint in 3 different colours. I stuck the Cut to the card stock using washi, and then ran the texture paste randomly across it using a palette knife.
This worked out really well, but not perfectly, which I’m totally okay with. A couple of issues I had was the modelling paste bleeding through in a couple of spots, and in others it dried really quickly making the Cut difficult to lift off.
I think I may have been able to overcome these issues had I gessoed the back and front of the Cut, and if I had been working with one colour modelling paste as I could have worked quicker.
Either way, I’m super happy with the result, and the small imperfections add to the grungey effect I wanted for this layout.
To emphasise the Cut, and again work in that grungey space, I went around each block and outlined each heart using a sharpie and fineliner. I then splattered lots of big black ink splots all over the place.
I can’t wait to try this technique again, it was super fun! And I even have the Cut File left over to use on another layout.
