Hi Creative Friends,
Gwen with you on the blog today with a new share, this one featuring the current Newsletter FREEBIE cut file ‘Floral Banner’. If you aren’t aware, there is a newsletter sign up pop up when you visit the website which you can pop your email address into. They send around 2 emails per month and every email sent includes a free design! So worth checking out, if you are into fab digital cut files for FREE 🙂 Now, onto my page! I started with this sweet photo of Miss C and her Daddy taken a few years back and the ‘Breathe’ collection by Kaisercraft.
To create the page, I cut the design out twice, once in white and once in Navy Blue cardstock. At this point, I wasn’t sure which colour I was going to use for my page and wanted some options!
I then went about backing the navy cut file with a variety of pattern papers from the collection. I also pulled out the smallest scrap of Apricot pattern paper from my stash and some vellum for the leaves. I then added some foam behind the file and placed onto my page.
At this point, I was not really loving the Navy, it felt a bit ‘heavy’ for the photo and my idea for the page. So, I positioned the white version of the cut file over the top. When placed directly over the top, it was all a bit too ‘white’ and ‘washed out’ but when I offset it a little, you could see some of the Navy which I loved.
Now that I was happy with how the cut file layers were looking, I then set about positioning my photo. I had just enough of the apricot pattern paper to back it and stitched around the edge. I positioned it slightly to the left-hand side of the banner.
It was now time to play with the embellishments from the collection. I pulled elements from the sticker book as well as the die cut ephemera pack, starting with what ends up as my title for the page the ‘Special’ element. I positioned that to the right of my photo and then built the clusters of elements from there.
I’ve just pulled the things that fit with my photo and capturing this sweet moment between my daughter and her daddy. I have added some of the elements with 3D foam tape for dimension and interest and just kept playing around with everything until I was happy and then glued down.
I’m really happy with how this turned out and love the Navy, Apricot and White colour scheme. It feels a little out of my comfort zone but still very me, I’ll definitely be making a couple more pages with this elegant collection and I just love the bold statement the cut file has made and how simply it has helped me put the page together.
