You Make My Heart Smile | Melinda Sweetman

Hello CTY fans, Melinda here with you today sharing my newest page!

I’m using 2 different cut files for this page and I’ve gotta say, I really love how this came together in the end even though I had my doubts as it was coming together!

I’ve started with the fun Background Stripes cut file available here in the CTY store and here on Etsy. I did cut 3 other files at the same time and they are the Confetti Background, Heart Lovers Unite and XO Heart Background cut files which I am excited to use on another project or 2! I have then used my cut as a stencil applying modelling paste for some fun texture!

My “stencil” is good enough for a couple of more uses I think but it is made out of smooth card stock so won’t last forever but I thought it would be a fun way to use a cut file. I popped my background aside to dry and got to work on the cut file I wanted to use for my title.

Again I have cut the You Make My Heart Smile in smooth white card stock ready to back with some pretty patterned papers.

This cut file is the perfect way for you to use up some of your littlest scraps to back the letters with. I went with rainbow colours using the wig my son is wearing in the photo for inspiration. So red, orange, yellow, green and blue. In order. Of course. I knew I wanted to create a shaker pocket with the big heart in the title so I added some acetate and then 4 layers of the heart part of the cut file (which I cut again separately on my Cameo) to create some dimension. Next up the sequins which are, of course, rainbow as well!

By the time my file was backed my paste was dry so I pulled out some colours to play with! I have used some of my Shimmerz paints and decided to go with orange, red and yellow.

I wanted the heart to pop a bit more so I also added some paint around the heart with the orange paint I used in the background.

Time to embellish! I have to be honest here, I struggled with the embellishing as I initially started with only the red, yellow and oranges. I decided to throw in the other rainbow colours and was much happier.

My final touch was some black acrylic shapes, black gems and black splatters. Thanks boss lady for the tip!! I really love then fun and bright colours and feel to this page! I love rainbow and love how I have incorporated it in a fun and different way to the “norm”

I have a process video below if you’d like to see this page come together and there is some of my Studio design footage as well!!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my process and page!
