Hello fellow CTY lovers, Melinda here with you today with my first share for September!
I have used the gorgeous new “We Still Do” cut file for this page as I actually had this photo of hubby and I from our anniversary in April on my desk!
I’ve gone fairly clean with this one but still used my beloved paints and got messy in the process! Which you can watch below on my process video!
I have cut the file on some textured white card stock. Then I had my Cameo cut the inside pieces to fit by removing the outline from the design and then doing an offset on each of the letters. This did require a little slicing and playing with the lines but I made sure to include that in my process video for you! These were backed with a pattern paper from the Love Always collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio.
Here is where I used my mixed media! I have grabbed some off cuts of vellum and some Shimmerz paints. If you have never used paint on vellum here is a valuable tip! Tape it down! The vellum will curl up on itself almost as soon as you apply the liquid/paint!
With my vellum taped down and my colours chosen I started painting blocks of colours onto the vellum. I knew I wanted to use the gorgeous CVS Love Always collection so chose colours I thought would work well with that.
I did try to leave my paint to dry naturally but also sped up the process a little with my heat tool! If you choose to use a heat tool make sure to keep it moving while you heat otherwise your vellum will melt!! When that was thoroughly dry I flipped the vellum and my cut file and traced around the flowers and the hearts with a lead pencil. Then got to cutting and backing the pieces the same way I would use pattern paper! I love how soft and pretty this is. And I love, love, love the texture I created doing this!
I added a little extra to my back ground paper with a stencil and modelling paste and also some splatters in the same colours I used to paint the vellum.
2 layers behind my photo and a doily and then that tucked beautifully into cut file. I kept my whole design around the title and the photo and added minimal embellishing.
I’ve added in some butterflies from the CVS More Than Words collection ephemera pack. And couldn’t resist some simple yet effective butterfly trails hand stitched. A few word strip stickers from the Love Always collection and some Elle’s Studio puffy alphas for a tiny bit more detail.
My final touches are some grey splatters and stamping my date in grey. There is no journalling on this page but there is more I want to say that is a little personal. I think I will pop that into an envelope or something – I’m yet to decide. But that finishes off this page and I just love the softness and pretty details.
If you love mixed media but are a bit unsure this is one way you can play but it is still clean! It may even be Gwen approved?! LOL I hope you have enjoyed my share today and make sure you head over to the store to see what else is new!
