Life Is Short Eat The Cake | Melinda Sweetman

Hello CUT to YOU fans, Melinda here with you today sharing my latest creation!

Now, if you’ve been following along a little while you will probably recognise that title piece from this blog post – which also has a process video linked. So, I won’t go over the steps I took to create that but instead talk to you about how this page came together! You can find that cut file here in the store though!

I started with that title piece and then decided to use the new Leaf Sprigs cut file (gorgeous!!) which I have cut 4 times – 3 in vellum and once in smooth white card stock. I wasn’t sure how many I would use so I figured more is better!

As I had designed my title piece using the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Happiness collection it was simply a matter of laying the photo and both cut files onto my background in a design I was happy with!! I started with gold machine stitching in a big circle (hindsight says it should have been a wee bit smaller but oh well!!) and then adding sprinkles of gold mist.

I have overlaid the vellum on top of the white card stock and used a few tiny spots of wet glue to stick them together to add some shadows where they didn’t lay directly on top of each other. When my gold sprinkles were dry I added 3 more vellum halves onto the background paper over the stitching. I didn’t stick those completely to the background as I wanted some more lift and movement.

I layered the photo, the double layered sprigs and the title together with a photo mat and stuck those all down when I was happy with the placement. Again, for more movement and shadows I have not stuck the sprigs completely flat and have let some bits overlap onto the photo.

With my main elements stuck to the page all that was left was some embellishing. I had my Cameo cut all of the butterflies from the 6×8 sheet of pattern from the CVS Happiness collection and decided to use those as my embellishments. I started by layering them all around the wreath and felt that that was too much so ended up with 2 clusters of 3.

With my butterflies stuck down it was time for my final touches. I have added in some of the darker blue clear heart stickers from the same collection in both clusters and also a painted stripe sticker to 2 sides of the photo. And then added in some dark blue ink splatters to the 2 clusters.

Finally I added in my journalling with a grey pen to the right side of the page. Oh, and the gold had faded a little into the background so I covered my photo and title and sprinkled some more gold on top!

My tech seems to be back on board co-operating with me so I have a process video for you which I do hope you will enjoy!

For all of the newest releases make sure you head over here in the store and remember, Gwen also does custom cuts which means if you don’t have your own cutting machine Gwen will cut them and send to you anywhere in the world!! Awesome service!

Until next time, happy scrapping!
