Hello fellow creatives and a big welcome to the CUT to YOU blog today! Melinda here with you sharing my latest creation as part of the design team and oh boy, I just love how this page turned out and I can’t wait to share it!
As you can see my cut file features as part of my background design and adds texture and something fun to the page! The file I used is called Squares Cubed and you can find it here in the CTY store.
I cut this as big as I could in my Silhouette software on white cardstock. I knew I wanted to use this file exactly as I have; so to help it meld into the back ground I did choose smooth.
Once that was all cut I simply used some matte medium with a spatula and adhered each of the squares in diagonal lines on the bottom right of the page. I made sure they had plenty of medium on the back of the file to stick and also applied a coat over the top as I knew I wanted to add colour and water to my page. The top left of the page was a kind of after thought but I’m so glad I decided to add in a few more squares there!
When the matte medium was completely dry I could add colour! For this page I have used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolours in a blue and a purple to work with my 2 3×4 photos. I simply spritzed my page with water and kind of dripped and dropped and painted my colour over the top. I love watching things like this as the colour moves around because it really brings those cut files to life – it’s like the emerge from the back ground!! Once I was happy with the colour I used the same colours to add lots of splatters.
Now, being that I am not huge lover of purple I did kinda hit a stumbling block while trying to finish this page off but realised I could use black and white for the most part. I ended up settling on the Cocoa Vanilla “You Rock” collection as I still had those 3 big chipboard words which I thought worked perfectly for my title and fit beautifully both above and below my photos!
I added in a few more chipboard pieces and then not much else as I didn’t want to cover up too much of that oh so fun back ground! I found a few ephemera pieces and decided I really loved what that pop of wood grain added to my page so added those in. But I especially love the clear stickers on this page cause you get the fun of the stickers but also the fun of that back ground – win/win!!
And that wraps up my page for you today! You can see my process video below, just hit that play button!
