The Best | Melinda Sweetman

Hey everyone and a big welcome to the CUT to YOU blog today. Melinda here with you sharing my latest creation!

Can you see that I have used 2 of the brand new June 2020 cut files? And, coincidentally, 2 of which seemed to customer faves in the HQ FB group! Here is the first one, “Chevron Bouquet” and as soon as I saw this I KNEW I had to create with it!

And the other is the gorgeous Two Cute Tassels! Oh my, these are just the sweetest. FYI, if you choose to cut them small, they are fiddly, but oh so worth it!

I have cut both of these on smooth white card stock. Since I received lots of feedback to show me actually USING some of my Elle’s Studio kit goodies, that’s precisely what I have used to back both of these files!

My very first thought when I saw this Chevron Bouquet cut file was to back only the florals and I just love, love, love how it came together! Using the colours I had backed the florals with I chose to create one blue and one pink tassel, adding in a couple of small pops of the darker colours (the darker blue and red) to create a more realistic look of shadows.

I added some mixed media to my white background card stock using a variety of different green mists and paints. I tried to keep most of that behind where the florals and my photo were going to be situated.

For a fun way to add the tassels I decided to slide one onto one of the straight edges of the chevron lines so it is “hanging” (how cute really!!) and then layer the other slightly over the first and slightly over my photo too.

As a final touch to highlight that gorgeous chevron design I added some gold stitching using my sewing machine.

I created 3 embellishment clusters around my photo, added my title and a couple of lines of journalling to the right hand side in grey pen.

At this stage I thought I was done but not convinced. Don’t you hate that, when just don’t know what to do next?! After some thinking I decided to trim down my white card stock to the edge of the Chevron Bouquet cut file and adhere that to a woodgrain pattern paper.

I didn’t cut into the top chevron design but decided instead to rip a section out of the middle and roll/fold the paper back on itself for some interest. I do have a process video for you (it’s a bit longer than normal so make sure you grab a cuppa 😉 ), just click on the play button below!

So, that’s my share for today and I hope I have inspired you to create with these gorgeous new cut files!! If you have not yet seen the beautiful new releases you can see that over here on the website!

I hope you have fabulous day today and that you manage to sneak in some scrappy time! Until next time, happy scrapping!
