Hello beautiful friends! I am so happy to be here today sharing my second project for the month with you.

I had a realisation that after four years of studying, I have never actually document my journey as a mature-aged student and the impact that has had on my life, and my family’s lives. So I knew when I saw the School Books Cut File it would be perfect for getting some of this story told.

I started out by adding some subtle mixed media to my background using stencils and texture paste. As is my go-to at the moment, I added a mat to my entire background page and stitching around the border, this time in a coloured thread that coordinated with the colours in the collection I was using.

I backed my cut file in some coordinating patterned papers, and chose a word-based paper for the open pages of the book to give it a more authentic feel. I backed my photo with some really textured layers of patterned paper. I adhered my photo flat to the page and layered the backed cut file to overlap the bottom of the photo using some foam adhesive.

I chose a large foam word for my title and added that over the top of my cut file. Then I really had so much fun creating two beatiful layered clusters alongside my photos. I used a lot of different foam adhesives to really give my layered embellishments a lot of dimension and movement.

I created a complimentary 6×12 page to hold all of the journalling I wanted to include. I made sure to repeat some of the elements on the journalling page to ensure cohesiveness between the two pages.

If you would like a more detailed look at how I created this layout, I would love for you to check out my process video below.

Thank you so much and I hope you have a great day!
