My Childhood Obsession | Khristina Sorge

Hey friends! Lately, I have been talking to a few creative friends about storytelling and creating layouts about us and childhood. I am really good at documenting my travels and documenting my kids but I haven’t been doing a great job documenting myself and stories from my childhood that I might like my kids to know one day. SO….I am trying really hard to find ways to tell some of those stories and this is one. My Little Pony, my friends, was a big childhood obsession for both me and my little sister. We had so many of those little plastic ponies with the bright manes and fun details. We loved the show, decorated our rooms, and collected all the figurines. Anybody else remember those days?!? Well, I was super amazed when My Little Pony reappeared and my daughter fell in love. It was kind of like me falling in love all over again. This Rainbow Burst Background Cut File was seriously perfect! I flipped its direction but it seriously just screamed My Little Pony and this story to me when I was sitting down to create.

Another thing that I really love about this cut file is all of the options. You can totally use it over and over again because there are so many possibilities and documenting opportunities. I decided to back just the stars with patterned paper and leave the rainbow open but you could totally do the reverse or fill in everything too!

I used an ombre pink for my background because I felt like it was a perfect match for my photo and then the navy starburst paper around the edge just made the perfect way to accent everything! I totally loved including my journaling as another accent around the edge of the pink ombre paper too! Do you ever try that with your journaling?

For embellishments, I just needed a few little die cuts that coordinated with my patterned paper choices as well as two different alphabets for my title. Because the word “Childhood” is so long, I decided to break it up into two lines and that ended up being a good decision because then those two lines nestled in with my larger puffy “my” font perfectly.

Last, but not least, I added a few enamel dots and puffy sticker stars to each of my embellishment clusters for a finishing touch! I also have a process video over on my You Tube channel if you want to check that out to see more about how this layout came together (or just to hear me talk about My Little Pony..haha).

Have you documented memories from your childhood? This would be a perfect chance to tell one of those stories and I would love to have you tag me on social media so that I can see what story you choose as well!

xoxo,
