Karen with you today. Are you finding it hard to find the time to get creative? There are so many reasons, lack of inspiration, being sick or being super busy with your life. The list can go on forever! I know I can certainly say I tick several of those ‘sick and busy” boxes right now! With this in mind I thought I would show you what I do when I am feeling this way. My layout today features the My Kind of Messy file.
It is simple really I start with a CUT FILE! and create a simple and fast layout and I choose a file that is large.. There are a couple of reasons I do this – 1 – Larger files take up more space on the page and the page can be minimalist when it comes to embellishing, 2 – a lot of larger files have a perfect spot for your photo to fit so there is no need to over think. Where things need to go!
Now I still need to use mixed media, I really cant help it! So I chose techniques that are fast drying, in this case I used a brayer to smooch paining and inks, random stamping and some splatters. These all dried quickly with virtually any wait time.
I kept embellishments to a minimum and I was done in about 25 minutes. I really should do this more often! To see a little more of how this one came together please hop on over the YouTube!
Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope you get some creative time in this month.
Karen with you today sharing a layout feature the awesome Fireworks Frame file.
My photo today is my gorgeous boy when he was 7 month old, I love this one so much! I did accidently drop some ink spray which left a couple of marks on the photo. Which I am choosing to ignore LOL!
I decided this one needed a messy mixed media background with some shimmer as well to give the effect of a galaxy. I backed the cut file with patterned paper and then decided to utilise the stars left on my Silhouette mat and used several of my ink sprays to colour them up. I kept the embellishments to a minimum to allow for the file and the photo to be the focal point.
To construct the layout I lifted the file up using some craft foam to get some wonderful dimension and shadows over the page.
Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you have had some time to create this month.
Hi CTY Creative, what a fantastic month of sharing so far this month! Karen with you today with a scrapbook layout featuring the gorgeous Floral Filled Heart 01 Background file. How gorgeous is it?!
I really wanted this file to sing and be the main feature on the page. To do this I backed the file with the gorgeous Cocoa Vanilla These Days collection, got a little sparkly by adding sequins to the centre of the flowers and popped it all up on some foam. I tried to keep embellishing to a minimum but could not resist adding the gorgeous butterflies to flutter and add dimension around the flowers.
To see more of how this came together I would love it if you hopped on over to YOUTUBE!
Hi CTY Creatives, Karen with you today and I am playing along with my fellow design team members for this months theme MAGICAL MOMENTS. I couldn’t go past the Magical Moments file for my first share this month. I mean it was perfect!
My photos at from a visit to SeaWorld on the Gold Coast when Jacob was about 4 years old, I still remember how much fun we had that day. It was the first time he had ever gone on any sort of amusement rides and of course seeing all of the animals.
I chose the gorgeous Simple Stories Vintage Coastal Collection, I loved the palm trees and the colour pallete was perfect for the coastal theme. I backed the cut file with the patterned paper and created a water colour background in blue tones to represent the water.

Hi CTY Creative! I hope you are getting some creating time in. I attended a wonderful scrapbook retreat earlier this month and I can’t tell you how good it felt to be amongst people creating again. I have a super sweet scrapbook layout today celebrating an Easter egg haul. The Easter Basket Background is such a gorgeous file and I wanted it to be the star of the page.
My creation also celebrates alongside the CSI Challenge Case Number 385. How gorgeous is the that basket. Please check out the CSI blog for all the details on how you can enter, you can win a store voucher so what are you waiting for!
The collection I used today is Cocoa Vanilla Bohemiam Dreams, I just love the florals and the butterflies and wanted to create the feeling that the flowers were weaving around the basket handle.
There is a process video as well which I would love you to check out!
Hi CTY Creative, I hope you are safe and well. I am sharing a fun layout today using the gorgeous Love Hearts by Caitlin Background file. I have used both the positive and negative component of the file. It is one of my favourite things to do, you can get so much out of just one file!
My layout also solves one of the CSI Case Files, Number 384. How cute is this photo prompt. Please check out the blog here and give the challenge a go. You could win a store voucher!
Here is a close-up on the mixed media I used for the heart inserts and created heart clusters around the page.
I have a process vid too!, I would love it if you checked it out.

Karen with you today sharing a fun and bright scrapbook page. Have you had a chance to look at this months CSI Challenges! My layout today is an example of how you can take a challenge anywhere you like! I certainly diverted off a little but I am super happy with how this one turned out. The cut file for this one TH Speech Bubble and it was a great place to start!
So I am sure you can see straightaway where I diverted from the photo prompt but bare with me, it will make sense. I loved the cartoon concept and wanted to bring this into the mix with the speech bubble file and some of the ephemera such as the FUN and WOW words. The CSI challenge also provides a list of evidence to give you more to play with which included frames, boys dots, wood and speech bubbles!.
To give it my own spin I added flowers but I really love how the mixing with cartoon look works! Well I think it does LOL!
If you would like to see more of how I created this one please check out the YouTube process vid.
Karen with you today with a cloud and rainbow filled scrapbook layout. The Rainbow Skies Background file was just too hard to pass up when I saw the CSI Challenge Case File #382. So many items from the prompts inspired me right down to the gumboots and I knew exactly what photo’s to use!
How cute is that photo prompt! I would love it if you joined in on the challenge, you could win a store voucher!
I used pretty much all of the file for this one, I have backed some of the clouds with patterned paper and used the cut out popped up on foam for dimension all over the page.

Karen with you today,. I hope you are getting an opportunity to create this month. The year seems to be flashing by, my creating time gives me a moment to stop and take a breath. My share today features the wonderful Leaf Sprig and the Rosey Posey file, it was absolutely a gorgeous fit to my photo and of course the CSI Challenge No. 381.
I used a couple of techniques for the cut files, the Rosey Posey file got the water colour treatment and I backed the rose portion with vellum and the Leaf Sprig was backed with some patterned paper.
I initially drew inspiration from the photo prompt for the colour tones (pink) but the layout took a mind of it’s own as I was creating. I have represented the tiers as all of the layers on the page. The challenge also has a list of evidence items which included a wreath so although I went a little rogue with the colours it is still very much inspired by the challenge. That is my favourite thing about completing challenges you can use whatever you want to gather inspiration and take you layout anywhere! Check our the challenge information here.
You can see how this one developed on YouTube, I would love it of you visited.
I can’t tell you how much I love the Floral Mandela No.2 cut file. It was perfect to creative alongside CSI Challenge No 380. Part of the theme for this month’s challenge is ‘Spunky Old Broads”, I knew exactly what photo I was going to use. It is me and some wonderful scrappy friends who I could no live without!
Once I had backed the file I decided I wanted to extend the file across the page (left to right) so I took a a deep breach and cut a portion off the side. I was certainly relieved when it looked how I thought it would in my head.
The challenge also includes a list of evidence and some of these elements also feature on the page, flowers, butterflies, spring green and leaves.
I created a YouTube vid for this one, I would love it if you checked it out!
I love how this one came together! Thanks so much for stopping by, happy creating!
