Make a Wish | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello, It’s Michelle back here today. I’ve gone on a little walk down memory lane for my layout share this week using a photo from a couple years back, an older cut file from the vault and a collection that was released many many moons ago.

I’ve used the Pinwheel file to compliment a couple of photos I took of Leila a few years back. This can be found in the CELEBRATIONS & FUN section of the shop. I also chose the sweet Life is Beautiful collection for its whimsical feel.

I cut the design out on white cardstock in 3 different pieces. To do this I traced the original design in silhouette studio then released the compound path so that the 2 individual pinwheels were no longer grouped to each other. In order to still keep each pinwheel a whole piece I needed to regroup the pieces back together so that I could still move them as a whole, but also keep tham as 2 separate pieces. Next I copy & pasted the larger of the 2 pinwheels and resized it slightly larger than its original size, thus creating 3 separate pinwheels ready to cut out.

Once the designs were cut I chose the pattern papers and backed the 2 smaller pinwheels, leaving the 3rd plain Jane. I didn’t glue the rounded edges completely to the pattern paper as I wanted the lifted edges to give a slight dimensional look rather than flat.

I used the extra pinwheel to fill the white space at either side of the layout as I felt this gave it a soft subtle texture to the once before blank areas. I simply cut the pinwheel in half and glued it down to either edge, and raised certain areas with glue dots

I added frames around the photos and adhered these over the edge of the larger backed pinwheel and created a floral cluster of different elements from the collections ephemera pack.

I balanced out all the colour in the middle of the layout by adding a cluster of similar elements to the top right of the layout

and also continued the large cluster of elements into the bottom left corner

Lastly I added some white alpha stickers to the top and right of the photos to create a title

I sewed through the letters to ensure they stay adhered to the page for years to come, but also because I like adding a little extra texture to a layout here and there.

Well thats all from me today, thanks so much for stopping by the CUT to YOU blog today. Be sure to check out whats new in store if you haven’t already, theres a new release of cut files not too far away also!

Until Next time, Happy Scrapping

Grade 2 | Michelle Stokes

Hello Everyone, Michelle back here today with my first layout share of the year. Cannot believe were already almost 3 weeks into this new year. Time flies way too quick thats for sure! Todays layout features one of our newest cut files for the month – Grade School – and I’ve combined that with the awesome You Rock collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. Both the cut file and collection are perfect for documenting some first and last day of school photos of Leila in 2019.

I only cut 2/3rds of the actual cut file out on white cardstock. I did this in a couple of steps that work best for me that I will run through below, others may have a different way of going about this.

To begin I opened the file within silhouette studio, resized to fit the grid then traced the entire image. Thinking back now I could have made it a whole lot quicker and less steps if I had just traced over the part of the image that I wanted to cut out. Silly me HAHA

Next I slowly erased the areas that I didn’t want to cut out using the eraser tool, set to ‘outline’ in square form and the biggest size it will go. This meant that parts of the bottom of the file weren’t joined together and I needed to hand cut them off the cardstock after cutting out on the silhouette. I don’t mind doing this as it was pretty straight forward.

Once the file was cut and ready to go I backed each letter of the word GRADE using different pattern papers that complimented both the background paper and photos of Leilas first and last days of school in 2019.

I backed the number 2 with some red stars to signify the grade of school for the year, then backed all the numbers with vellum. The entire cut file piece is raised off the background paper using foam tape for slight dimension.

I added extra stars to the layout and a few extra embellishments but not too many as I wanted the photos and cut file to be the hero of the layout.

I really like how this layout came together, and cant wait to continue the tradition of first and last day photos in the years to come.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, be sure to check out whats NEW in store and even sign up for our newsletter – theres a FREEBIE included every issue.

Until next time, happy scrapping

December Magic | Michelle Stokes

Hi crafty friends its Michelle here to share my final layout for the year. I went with a festive feel for this layout and scrapped a recent photo of our resident Elf on the Shelf. The one that gets up to all kinds of mischief this time of year.

This sweet photo documents our Elf’s arrival on Leila’s birthday. Every year she shows up with a basket full of Christmas goodies for Leila to enjoy as an early present from Santa.

The December cut file I chose to use was recently part of our 12 days of Christmas cut files and was perfect for creating one massive title on the layout.

I cut the design slightly larger than the photo and paper stack, and backed it using a pretty festive pattern paper from the Pebbles Merry Little Christmas collection.

I added the cut file pice to the right of the photo using some foam tape to lift it off the background

I tucked a couple of tags into the layers of the photo to create a cluster of embellishments along with the floral stickers

Along the bottom of the cut file I added the word MAGIC using some puffy stickers to finish off the title.

Well thats all from me today. Short and sweet to end the year just nicely.
Thanks so much for stopping by today and for all your continued support this year. I’ve really enjoyed being part of this team and hope to continue to provide monthly inspiration in the near future.

Until next time, happy scrapping!

12 Days of Christmas Giveaway – Snowflake Day 4

Hello and welcome to DAY 4 of our 12 days of Christmas GIVEAWAY!

It’s Michelle here today to share with you a page I’ve created using the Snowflake Cut File, which is available for free download today (04/12/19) and then for purchase from our Christmas collection after that.

I’ve used the Winter wonderland collection by Heidi Swapp to create this layout as I just love the colours and felt they worked well with the design of layout I was wanting to create. I resized the snowflake design within silhouette studio to 4 different sizes. 1 large piece to layer behind the photo stack and 3 individual snowflakes to ‘hang’ from the top left corner of the layout – to replicate the snowflakes our Elf created last year.

To begin the layout I cut the white cardstock down slightly and adhered to the red pattern paper then got to work creating the large photo stack. I used the larger snowflake as the base and layered a couple of pattern papers under the photos with some ephemera popping out here and there. I added some ribbon to the top of the tag and my title to the top of the photo using puffy letters and an ephemera word.

Next I adhered the smaller snowflakes to the top corner using glue dots, then added twine to each to make them look like they were hanging from the top of the layout. I added a few plain and snowflake sequins within this cluster along with a few ephemera pieces and a splattering of gold colour shine to finish it off

Oh What Fun | Michelle Stokes

Hello Crafty friends! It’s Michelle back here today with my 2nd share for November and boy am I excited about this one! I got myself into the Christmas spirit well and truly with this cut file and I absolutely LOVE how it all came together.

I’ve used the Christmas Tree Row from last months release after being inspired by a layout made by our one and only Boss Lady, Gwen. I increased the size of the design in Silhouette Studio and cut it out on white cardstock before cutting the design in half to layer under the photo I chose.

Our cheeky house Elf gave us a not so subtle hint to decorate the tree last year and Leila thought it was hilarious! I chose the collection I’ve used based solely on the colours from the photo, which are all very bright and christmasy.

I’ve used 6×6 papers from the Merry Little Christmas collection by Pebbles to back all the trees. I adhered the tree cluster to the left of the photo using foam tape, then did the same with the trees on the right. The photo is popped up slightly higher using a piece of foam sheet. I didn’t layer any more pattern papers under the photo as I felt it looked best without

I added gold and silver glitter paper to the stars on top of the trees, adhered with tiny staples, then layered a second star on top of the first to give them a little extra dimension

I kept the embellishing very simple with just a couple of ephemera pieces and a gold puffy letter title. The red HOHOHO strip was from the bottom of the candy stripe paper that I used to matt the white cardstock within the wash tapes layered bottom right of the photo are from the same collection.

Well thats all from me today. Short and sweet, but so much fun!

OH SO Pretty | Michelle Stokes

Hello Hello, its Michelle back again today with a new layout to share with you all. I’ve used an older cut file designed for use in Travellers Notebooks for this creation, but as you can see its perfect for layering into a 12×12 page.

I cut the INTERSECTING HEARTS design in silhouette studio on a bright pattern paper from the Paige Evans Whimsical collection. It’s approximately 11 inches long from top to bottom. I used the same pattern paper for the base of the layout, under the white cardstock background, to make the cut file and photo stack really pop. I adhered the file to the cardstock using my tiny attacher.

Next I gathered a few other pattern papers from the same collection to layer behind the photo, I’ve even tucked in a few ephemera pieces

The photo I chose to document is one of Leila and her favourite bear from a couple years back, they were pretending to be Kind and Queen. So cute!

I kept the embellishing pretty simple with a few more ephemera pieces and a small title, plus a splattering of gold ink and some hand written journalling.

Well thats all from me today, thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing a short but sweet layout share using an older TN file for something other than TN scrapping.

I’ll be back again soon with another share, but until then be sure to stop by the CUT to YOU group on facebook to share all the things you love about CTY. The CTY shop has also just had a restock recently so don’t for get to check that out too!

The Best | Michelle Stokes

Hi Scrappy friends, its Michelle back here today with a new layout share for you all. I’ve used one of our BRAND NEW cut files from the 2019 Christmas Release – the super cool Christmas Banner set.

This cut file is AMAZING! It cuts out so perfect and is super easy to back using loads of pretty pattern papers – especially the Unforgettable collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio.

Is definitely MORE than just a Christmas cut file. Super versatile for all the celebratory photos you want to scrap, like the photo I’ve used from my birthday a couple months back. The multiple different pattern papers distract from the obligatory night time birthday cake photo that isn’t super focussed HAHA

I made sure to balance the different patterns out across the page and didn’t group similar patterns or colours together. I even threw in a little silver glitter paper for a hint of sparkle here and there.

The entire cut file was cut on white cardstock using my Silhouette machine. I think I resized the design slightly to ensure it took up a good chunk of the background paper. I adhered it to the backing pattern paper using some foam tape for dimension. You all know how much I love a little dimension on a layout to make it POP!

I added a couple of complimentary embellishments here and there, but not too many as there was already so much going on around this page

Love love love layering different complimentary patterns together!

Well friends that is all from me today. Thank you so much for stopping by! Be sure to check out ALL the new files loaded in store HERE, and check into our facebook group – CUT to YOU HQ to chat and share all things CTY.

Until next time, Happy Scrapping!

Take Photos | Michelle Stokes

Hello scrappy friends its Michelle here today. I have a new layout to share with you all featuring some of our brand new floral designs released this month. I’ve used both the Floral Bouquet set and Floral Bouquet frame to create this sweet layout of Leila on her 1st birthday.

I chose both the frame and individual bouquet set to combine together as I wanted to layer the larger florals over the top of the frame and create something similar to a shadow box. To do this I enlarged the frame to just over 9 inches in silhouette studio and erased the outer edge border so that it created a larger inner frame around the page. I resized the large floral from the bouquet set to a slightly smaller size than the largest floral piece of the frame then cut all the pieces out on white cardstock.

I cut the separate piece of florals twice so that I could make use of both the flowers and leaf stems in different ways. Once I had all the pieces cut individually I backed the main frame and extra flowers vellum and left the extra leaf stems untouched

I adhered the extra flower pieces to the frame using tiny amounts of foam tape and bent the leaf stems for extra dimension before adhering with tacky glue.

I chose a super sweet photo of Leila from her first birthday and brought it all together with the stunning Unforgettable collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The perfect accompaniment to the floral cut files

I layered the cardstock frame with a floral wreath pattern paper to make it look like one big cluster of florals and tucked in extra ephemera to compliment the cut files

I added a little extra piece to the edge of the photo that was from the bottom of the frame and would have been hidden from sight.

Lastly a massive splattering of gold colour shine and some enamel dots and I thought it was complete. I tried to work out a large title for the layout, but felt it would overpower the softness of the white on white cut files and all the pretty florals.

Well thats all from me today, Thanks so much for stopping by!

Be sure to check in with us in the CUT to YOU HQ facebook group and share all the things you love about CTY. Also be sure to pop by the shop and check out all the new cut files HERE.

As always, happy Scrapping!

Precious Moments | Michelle Stokes

Hello Friends, Its Michelle back here today with a new layout share. I’ve jumped back to last months release and chosen a fun cut file called Burst Circles that was just singing out to be used.

I chose to document a photo of Leila from a recent trip to the Zoo. We had so much fun that day, and this little lady just LOVED posing for pictures time and time again. I can say that her 2 front teeth are FINALLY making a breakthrough after almost 8 months of non existence.

To start the layout I worked in Silhouette Studio to resize the entire file so that only 3 of the larger circular designs (lets call them sunburst circles) were the main focus. I played around with different ways to present them on the layout before cutting all the pieces out on white cardstock then cutting each individual circular piece so that I could layer them in different ways across the page.

I’ve used the newer ‘Just a little Lovely’ collection from PinkFresh Studio to compliment the burst circles design. I’ve backed the ‘sunbursts’ with a blue and white floral pattern paper and adhered them to the layout using foam tape, then layered the full circular bursts under each piece at random. I also adhered the negative circular pieces around the page and sewed through a couple using machine and thread.

I added the photo to the larger of the 3 sunbursts which is also backed with a pattern paper from the collection, layered with a couple of ephemera pieces and adhered to the page using more foam tape.

To the left of the layout on the middle size sunburst I have added an ephemera piece, fussy cut florals and a title. I’ve created smaller clusters diagonally across the page from each other using embellishments to compliment the cut file design.

Once the layout was complete I’ve splattered gold colour shine, added a few enamel dots and a date stamp.

Well folks thats all from me today. Before I go heres a few friendly reminders….

GO SEE DO | Michelle Stokes

Hi friends, It’s Michelle back here today with a fresh new layout to share. This week I challenged myself to GO BIG with a dramatic title and more than 1 photo. I think I achieved just that using the fun GO SEE DO cut file

This awesome cut file was created for Travellers Notebook crafters, but it’s also PERFECT to use as a MASSIVE title on any general scrapbooking creation! I do LOVE a massive cut file title!!

I went big with this file and resized it in Silhouette Studio to roughly 10 inches tall and cut it out on white cardstock. I used fresh coloured pattern papers from the Heidi Swapp Colour Fresh collection to back all the individual letters before adhering to the centre of the backing cardstock using foam tape for dimension.

I added the two photos of Leila, my nephew and 2 of our cute little friends to the left and right of the arrows, layered with extra pattern papers to compliment all the colours used to back the cut file. I also tucked in a few ephemera pieces too

These 2 girls have so much fun together!

I wanted to add a couple of words for journalling, so I added these to the lined pattern paper used to back the O at the bottom of the cut file

Lastly I added a couple more ephemera pieces to the bottom right of the layout and a few flowers to the edges of the cut file. I cut the backing cardstock down in size and adhered to a multi colour pattern paper before splattering the entire page with my favourite gold colour shine.

Thats all from me today. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my work today. Be sure to check in with us in the CUT to YOU facebook group as we all LOVE to see the amazing creations that you all make with our cut files.

Theres also been a new release of files in the CUT to YOU store, so make sure you check that out too!!

Until Next time, Happy Scrapping
