I am happy to be with you again to share my latest design team project. As I scrolled through all the amazing designs available in the CUT to YOU store, my eye was drawn to the Onward and Upward Cut File. I thought it would be perfect to document my son’s first day at his Early Learning Centre.
I just love the symbolism of the increasing bar graph representing his journey out into the world of learning. And I had so much fun playing with some bright and bold colours to create the layout.
You can see how I created this layout in my process video below:
And here are a few more close-up images of the finished layout.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my project. I hope you have a great day!
Hello friends and welcome to the CUT to YOU blog today!
I was given the challenge of using a black cut file for this share and funnily enough already had a couple cut in black so was super excited to get this one used up!
The cut file on this page is actually from one of the KIT to YOU kits “Magnolia Bouquet” and, as you can see, I’ve used it TOTALLY differently to the way Gwen used it in the kit and I just love this file in black!!
For this layout I have chosen to play with the Pink Paislee “5th & Monaco” collection which I had purchased to scrap at least some of the photos from my big 40th last year.
I’ve used the 6×8 paper pad to back the cut file in pretty pinks and white with gold foiled patterns and love the way the black cut file makes it pop off the page!
My title is actually the acrylic piece that was used as my cake topper! Hubby just (carefully!) removed the spike and I have a giant shiny acrylic piece to pair with my beautiful cut file and photo!
I’ve done a little mixed media in the background – totally inspired by the amazing Sue Plumb! You can see my page come together over on my YT video, which is linked below for you!
I think I will use this page as a kind of “chaper title” page in my 2020 album so kept the journalling pretty short – to the effect of “With all of the uncertainty of 2020 I am so very grateful that I got the chance to celebrate this milestone birthday with those I love!”
I hope that you have enjoyed my share today and that maybe you have been inspired to create with a black cut file! Or perhaps you have a KIT to YOU kit that you are inspired to use in a different than “designed” way or maybe even as a great place to start something new if your mojo is a little meh at the moment!
Until next time, happy scrapping and make sure you check out all of the beautiful KIT to YOU kits in the store! I just love them so much!!
Hello CUT to YOU family and welcome to the blog tody for my first February post!! I am so, so, so excited to be sharing this page with you!
So, as you can see, I have used the oh so fun and adorable brand new Gnome cut files! I seriously love these so, so much!! First up that title – “A Love Like Gnome Other“.
And the other is, of course, “Mr & Mrs Gnome“, aren’t they just adorable?!
I’m sure you noticed too all of that gorgous gold foil!! That is the stunning new “Fab Foils” from Spiegelmom Scraps. This month we are collaborating Fab Foils & Cut Files for some shiny fun!!
This foil adds so much pop to a project and, once you get the hang of applying it, it is so easy to work with! As you can see I’ve used it here to back parts of Mr & Mrs Gnome and also to add in the letters for the title.
Now, because I like to challenge myself (apparently lol) I have also decided to play along with one of this months CSI challenges!
I was inspired by the colour palette, the theme of love, the idea of writing my journalling in letter format and those little pops of black in the doodled type images.
I have a process video for you which is linked below to show just how this page came together and I do hope you enjoy!
Have you checked out all of the gorgeous new release cut files for Feb yet? Which is your fave? Or perhaps you were like me and just HAD to cut Mr & Mrs Gnome IMMEDIATELY?! Either way, I hope that this inspires you in some way!! So many options with this share lol
I have already got a start on my next share and can’t wait to share that with you but until then, happy scrapping and I’ll see you soon! Mel xx
My challenge for this week was to use black cardstock for my cut file, which is a no brainer for me because I love that and do it a lot! So I decided to take it up a notch, and use the Fab Foil we received in our collab with Spiegel Mom Scraps this month, and let me tell you, I’m so glad I did!! I loved the result so much that I’m up on the blog today with a double whammy share!
I started my first layout by adhering the Fab Foil to a piece of black cardstock. As the foil comes in 6×12 sheets, it covered half the piece of cardstock. I was then able to duplicate the Floral Edge Cut File that I had picked from the CTY shop so that it cut on the foil half and the black half of the page.
I honestly could not believe how easily the Fab Foil cut in my Silhouette! I thought it may have been challenging to cut such as intricate file, but it was no worries at all! I would recommend using the double cut function, just to super sure it cuts all the way through the cardstock as well.
Once I had the files cut, I picked this series of photos and when I put the two elements together, I was getting grungy vibes. So I pulled out some vintage inspired papers, laid down some gesso and ink splatters, and tore some paper strips. I adhered the black part of the cut file completely to the page but only adhered the inner edge of the foil cut, so that the leaves and floral elements had some movement. This worked out great with the foil because it seemed to catch the light more.
I took the same approach on my second layout, laying down the foil, duplicating and cutting the file twice. This is where I learnt my lesson about the double cut, as the file was cut through the foil but not all the way through the cardstock. It was fine and I was able to sort it out, but it was definitely easier with the double cut!
For this page I cut the Floral Ampersand Cut File, and laid the black and foil cuts much closer together to create a shadow effect. I decided at this point that I wanted to go with a monochromatic layout, so set about gathering black and white elements for my page.
I painted some black stripes on to my white cardstock with a dry brush, and then added gold and black splatters. I struggled a little with where to place my photo in relation to the shape of the ampersand but decided it looked best nestled in at the bottom.
I really didn’t need to do too much more to the page because the Cut File and stripes packed a big punch. I added in some black and white elements sticking to a visual triangle, and then sprinkled around some gold sequins to ground the Cut File.
I really love how these pages came together! The Fab Foil from Spiegelmom Scraps really is a dream! Make sure you pop over there and check out the other colours! And while you are at it, pop over to the CTY shop and check out this months latest releases, they are fab!!
Hello creative friends! I am excited to share my newest layout using the Sweetheart Background Cut File! I was given the theme “Love” to inspire this Design Team project so I chose this cut file from the Cut to You shop.
This cut file paired perfectly with the photo of my beautiful daughters. I used this mixed media-style background paper from the CVS Daydream Collection along with some Heidi Swapp mist under the cut-file, to create an interesting base for my photos and embellishments.
I added some sparkle and shine with sequins, mirrored acrylic pieces and nests of gold thread, tucked between layers and layers of lovely florals, hearts, and rainbows.
Thank you for stopping by and checking out my latest creation with another fabulous Cut to You cut file! Seriously, the cut files from the shop do most of the work for you! All you have to do is add some photos and a couple of embellishments and voila’ , you have a gorgeous layout!

Hello and welcome to the blog today. Melinda here with you and I am super excited to share this project with you!!
This was a Christmas gift for a friend and as soon as I saw the “Rainbow Burst” cut file I knew it would work perfectly with this photo!!
I’ve used the stunning “Daydream” collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio and created my own background to work with this amazing cut file! I love, love, love that very subtle water colour rainbow under the photo, swoon!
You can hit play on the video below to see how I created this. This process video includes a little bit of a Silhouette Studio tutorial too which shows how I very slightly altered the cut file to suit my needs! I hope you enjoy and if you have any questions please let me know!
Finally, I will leave you with a few close up images of this page. I do hope you enjoy and that I have inspired you to create a subtle rainbow of your own maybe to work with this stunning new cut file!
Make sure you head over to the store for all of the new January releases and happy scrapping!! Mel
Thanks for stopping by today! It’s Josefine here with my first scrapbook layout for the Cut to You blog. I am so excited this new year! I wish everyone a healty and fantastic year, that we can go back to normal and that we can hug each other again! With this layout I look back to the winter memories in 2010….
I made a 12×12 mixed media layout and used the beautiful Winter Page Builder Cut File. First I started with my background. I used a background stamp that already looks like a stain. With the stamp and the distress oxide ( the color I used is ” Faded Jeans” ) I stamp on the cardstock. I also spray some water on my stamp and ink for a more watercolor effect. Then I made some splashes with the distress oxide and used a brush for that.
I let my mixed media background dry by air and start editing the two snowflakes with the Nuvo glitter paste. I love those beautiful glitter, especially when they are subtle.
When everything is dry I start decorating my layout. I cut some design paper to size and place it behind the photo to create more layers. I glue the cutfile title “Winter” with tacky glue and make 3D alpha’s from design paper and vellum. In the middle I stitch it with silver thread. I attach the 3D alpha’s with 3D foam on my layout.
Between my photo I slide some die-cuts of flowers and twigs. I put an extra title on my layout ” Stay Cozy” and put a deco photo frame on the photo. Finally I make some splatters with white gesso for a real winter effect. I cut the white cardstock to size and paste a design paper behind it. I stitch the edges with my sewing machine and use blue thread. My layout is ready now!
I had a lot of fun working with this fantastic cutfile! I wish you all a lovely and creative day! XoXo, Josefine
Hello beautiful friends! I hope you are all well and happy this Christmas Eve.
I am so happy to be with you today to share my final project for this month, and this year. Once again I’ve been delving into my stash of Christmas supplies to document some of my memories from past years.
For this project I used the Poinsettia Wreath Cut File. Although this cut file comes with two halves of a wreath, I decided to use just the bottom half.
I really wanted to play with some watercolour techniques for this layout and honestly, I just had so much fun with it. I created a base for my backed cut file using three different coloured inks which I watered down and very roughly sploshed around where I knew the cut file would sit.
And to fill in the top half of the wreath I had so much fun creating some painted watercolour foliage. This was such a simple but effective technique and I am so in love with the finished product.
I kept the remainder of my layout fairly simple. I chose three coordinating alphabet stickers for my title. I added some watercolour splatters around the wreath and used some of the gold foil stars that came with the alphabet stickers I used.
To finish the layout I tucked some additional bits of foliage that I die cut from coordinating patterned papers in and around my wreath cut file. And of course added a sprinkling of Nuvo drops for that sweet little finishing touch.
If you’d like to see how I created this layout in more detail I would love for you to take a look at my process video which is linked below.
Thank you so much for joining me today and I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Hello one final time for 2020 from me!!! And boy what a year it’s been! I don’t know about you but this year sure has given me time to think about the things I’m grateful for and lots of time to scrap!! Today I have for you a scrapbook layout about ME! And some fun winter PJ’s! I hope you enjoy!
I don’t know if you have seen this most gorgeous fox in the store but I have seriously been hanging out to use her for the longest time! She is “Mrs Fox” is available here in the CUT to YOU store. I have cut her on the “Stepping Stones” pattern paper in the Daydream collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The colours in this collection were just PERFECT for this photo!
Gah, isn’t she just the cutest little fox ever?!? However, I do think she needs a “Mr Fox”, Gwen….. Anyways, I have backed her using the 6×8 Paper Stack in the Daydream collection and then used that gorgeous blue with the feathers for my background. Mrs Fox and my photo just pop right off that background!
As usual, I have a process video for you all! Please be aware, this video was made away from home so looks a little different to my “normal” videos but I figured a video was better than no video 😉
I’ll leave you with a few close up shots of this and I do hope that I have inspired you to scrap a little something about YOU!!
If you are reading this post the day it goes live there are only 9 short days until the excitement of Christmas morning is actually here! However you celebrate, even if your Christmas Day is a not a “traditional Christmas celebration”, I wish you all a magical day, filled with lots of love and laughter and hopefully surrounded by those you love!
Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic remainder of December and 2020!! Mel xx
