First Birthday | Belinda Jane

Hello beautiful friends! Today I’m sharing my latest design team project with you. And for something a little different I have created a coordinating two-page layout to celebrate my son’s first birthday.

I knew the Confetti Background Cut File just had to be used for this birthday layout and decided to use it for the right had side of my spread. I wanted to create the effect of two-toned confetti falling down the page. To achieve that I randomly backed some of the confetti circles with glitter cardstock, before mounting the whole page onto a soft blue polka-dot patterned paper. I also added a hand-stictched border with blue thread.

There was a lot that I wanted to say about this ocassion so I kept the design of this page pretty simple to allow for lots of journaling strips. I added some visual interest to my photo by adding a few layers of patterned paper, adding some dimension (using chipboard leftover from some packaging) in between some of the layers.

I created a small cluter of embellishments to the bottom right of my photo using some cute boy-themed ephemera.

To balance it out I created another small cluster of embellishments on the top left of the photo. With all of the visual weight hanging toward the top of the page, I added some layered strips of patterned paper and a small cluster of stars down the bottom of the page. And of course I finished all three clusters off with some nuvo drops.

For the left-hand side page I created my own custom cut file using the text tool in the Silhouette studio software. I cut a giant number ‘1’ and backed it using fringed strips of patterened paper. I nestled three little custers of embellishments around my photo to help draw the eye. And finished off with a title using an alphabet die.

And since I also needed to create layout to celebrate my daughter’s first birthday, I went ahead and duplicated the layout using a different set of products to go into her album! I love these kind of time-saving shortcuts.

If you want a more in depth look at how this layout came together, please go ahead and check out my process video below.

I hope you enjoy!

Shine|Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all doing well as September rolls in. I have a layout to share today featuring the Rock Star cut file.

I started my layout by stenciling a star background to match my color scheme. I used two shades of blue Distress Oxide inks to create a blended ink background.

I backed the cut file with lots of papers in shades of aqua, navy, blue, black and white. I used scraps but I also used a few patterned pocket page cards. Pocket Cards make a great alternative to patterned papers and this is a great tip for using up quite a few from your stash.

I chose this particular card to back this star to act as my title. I love how it brings the title right into the design of the page.

I kept the embellishments neutral in color and simple- just a few cameras, phrase stickers, and labels.

As a last finishing touch I added a sprinkling of sequins around the border of the page. I think this adds a fun sparkle.

Be sure to take a peek at my process video above and then be sure to head over to the shop HERE and grab a cut file..or two. You will not be disappointed!

Have A Lovely Day!

So Berry Sweet | Melinda Sweetman

Hello scrappy friends and welcome to the blog today! I am sharing this sweet page with you using SIX photos, 2 fun cut files and, of course, mixed media fun!

When I chose these photos to work with I went back through my rather extensive (I am so lucky!!) CUT to YOU library and found this little gem “So Berry Sweet” from March this year which has the title and the strawberry.

As I was designing my page I decided that I wanted a fun way of being able to add a third pop of red. Off on the hunt again and I chose the Scallop Banners from April this year. I have done a little editing in my Silhouette software to get the scallops proportioned to the size I wanted. This was a fairly easy process of getting one to the “right” size, copying, pasting and then welding.

I’ve used papers from my scraps box to back the strawberries and the scallops and then some Tutu Pink Bazzil cardstock to back my title lettering.

For a fun element I used mixed media and the internal pieces from the cut file to create a stencil for the seeds on the strawberries and I really love it!

Of course, mixed media in my background and I chose soft pinks. I love the combo of pink and red together!

I didn’t go too crazy with embellishing but I did pull out of my Shimelle “Box of Crayons” collection for all of the strawberry stickers, ephemera, glitter shaker sticker and also a journalling piece.

Oh and that little gecko!!! Isn’t he just the sweetest?!?? And he is just the right colours to work on this page. All the heart eyes for this little guy!!

You can see my process video below, grab a cuppa, and I hope you enjoy!

This page was so fun to put together and I love that I have so many photos and that I have been able to use all of those cut files too!! Here are a few close ups for you to enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by and see you soon with another share!

Oh So Happy|Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! Sara with you today to share a new layout featuring the new August releases from the Cut To You Shop!

I started my layout by creating an easy watercolor background to give it the look of a blue sky.

I started my layout by backing my cut files. I chose to work with two of the new releases- Oh So Happy and Orchid Bloom .

I embellished my layout with just few little touches. You don’t need a lot of embellishment when you are using multiple cut files- just a couple of small touches. I chose small die cuts, wood veneer, and some little clear bubbles to enhance my photo.

I added some inking to the bottom of the Orchid Blooms cut file. It gives the cut file a bit of extra dimension and POP! I just love how this whole layout came out. Fun, bright, and sweet! Perfection! You can check out all the fun details in my process video below and dont forget to swing by the shop HERE to get some new cut files for your August crafting adventures!

Cousin Squad/Sara Scraps

Hello! Sara here with you today. I have a fun layout to share with you featuring the Cousin Squad cut file. I have been waiting to use this one for a while now! I am the oldest of 7 siblings so I have lots of cousin pages to do! This photo is special to me because it is the last time ALL my neices and nephews were together for a group picture.

I started with the title piece. I backed each letter with patterned paper. Then I used about 1001 foam squares to pop the title up.

I added florals onto the title to make it truly part of the layout. This allows the flowers to weave in and around both the photos and title seamlessly.

This layout is simple in design and execution but it packs a powerful, colorful punch! I love how all the colors pop off of the white cardstock! You can see all the details of this layout on my YouTube channel too! Id love to see you give this layout design a try.

White cardstock, an amazing title from the shop HERE, and and lots of pretty flowers are really all you need!

Beach Babies | Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! Sara with you today! I live in the Northern Hemisphere which means summer is just starting and I am currently loving creating summer layouts! Today’s summery layout features the brand new Interlocking Hexagons cut file.

How cute are these sunny faces! perfect for these beachy products! I chose to keep my cut file in white and I backed it with multiple patterns of beachy paper. I then fussy cut some gorgeous foiled shells and popped them up in the hexagons. I love how the hexagons frame the shells!

Next, I added some foam adhesive to my photo to give it some prominance. I created two embellishment clusters around my photo. A sparkly title was the perfect finishing touch!

As always, I have a process video if you would like to see all the little details and more of my thoughts on this project. And be sure to head over to the Cut To You shop HERE and take a peek at all the gorgeous cut files, you are sure to find something you will love!

Family Memories/Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! Sara here with you today sharing a family layout! I’m using the Faceted Squares cut file- and turning it on its side.

Cut files are one of those scrapbooking embellishments that you can turn and adapt in soo many fun ways! I simply took this diamond shape, cut it, then flipped it to a square to give my photo a colorful mat.

That one little easy step gives the cut file a completely different look! Its like getting two cut files for the price of one!

Now let’s talk about color…

I used blending brushes to add a light wash of ink to the cut file. You can still see lots of white comng through and a touch of brown ink deepened the colors and helped to match my papers and embellishments perfectly!

I always find using a dark background on a layout to be a bit tricky…you don’t want the whole layout to be dark. I find that some white splatter is just the trick to help lighten everything up.And for this layout, I found the cut file helped too- giving the layout some contrast and lightening up the whole layout!

Next time you are in your scrapping area, I challenge you to try a dark background and brighten it up with a fun cut file – maybe even try rotating your favorite cut file from the SHOP and see what kinds of new, fun desgins you can create with a simple turn!

I have a proces video up on my channel as well with more tips and tricks too!

HomeBodies Unite/Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! Sara here with you today! I’m featuring one of the Home Bodies Collection cut files.

My layout was inspired by CSI Challenge Case File #318. Cut to You is one of the challenge blog’s sponsors and we have been having fun playing along with their inspiration pieces over the last few months.

Here is the case file that inspired my layout today-

With all those orange tones, I knew I wanted to use a nice, muted color palette but I also wanted to make my cut file POP! To accomplish that I added some mixed media behind the cut file. The mixed media allows the backed cut file to really be visible and set it off.

I paired my cut file with a photo of my youngest son cuddling his dog on the couch..perfect homebodies uniting for sure!

I love the fun clusters of embellishments I used to define the line between the mixed media and the photo. It gives the whole layout balence and allows the photo to stand against the orange mixed media. Overall, I think that this layout came together so well and I love the cozy feel I was able to create!

If you haven’t seen these fun cut files yet, be sure to take a peek at them in the Cut To You shop HERE!

I also have a process video to share – in case you want to add a bit of mixed media to the background of your next cut file!

All The Love/Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! Sara with you today creating with the beautiful, new Leaf Edge Cut File

I started by cutting the file extra big out of smooth white cardstock. I wanted to use the cut file as the main embellishment on my layout. By sizing it large, and tucking my photo into the leaves,I accomplished my design goal. I decided to pair the cut file and picture with Cocoa Vanilla Studio’s Midnight collection, and then I went to work making the cut file my own- my favorite part of the process!

I used Distress Oxide ink and Distress Glaze to give my cut file a smooth, ombre look and then backed each leaf with a different patterned paper. I adhered the leaves straight to the page and then used dimensional foam behind the leaves to pop them up.

I wanted to add some embellishments to my cut file to give it some sparkler/shine, and tiny details. I decided on some clusters of sequins, and then I added die cuts, phrase stickers, and some butterflies to round out my clusters and make the page pop! I love how these details make the cut file a statement piece on the layout while not taking over or overwhelming my photo! I loved using the die cut words in the collection to mix and match until I had the perfect title.

Remember- cut files can be flipped and sized and used anyway you choose, that’s the best part. Allowing your creativity to flow as you create with them! Be sure to take a peek at the store HERE and grab one of these fun cut files to create with!

You can also head over to my You Tube channel for a step by step video showing all the details of how I created my layout!

Late Summer Blooms | Sara Scraps

Hello Everyone! Sara with you today sharing a layout featuring one of the new April cut files, Spring Tulip.

I paired my cut file with an older collection from my stash. I have been trying really, really hard to use up some older supplies and collect some empty packages this month. I finished off a whole package of puffy stickers on this layout and I couldn’t be happier! In addition to backing this cut file I also did some color coordinated hand stitching to add some more texture and color to the file.

Want to give hand stitching a cut file a try but nor sure how to get started? I have a bonus tutorial today showing the supplies and how I hand stitch a cut file as well as a process video. You can find both links below!
