Pool Cocktails | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! We have a celebration this month as it’s CUT to YOU’s 3rd birthday! Woo hoo! Happy Birthday! To celebrate each of the Design Team are scraplifting one of Gwen’s past layouts…. I chose one she did back in March 2020 which you can find here, and I followed the design of the layout by using a large cutfile to the left of the photo.

I chose the fun Tropical Punch cut file which can be found here in the shop as it was perfect to go with my photo of a past holiday back in 2019 to St. Lucia in the Caribbean.

I decided to back the cut file using different patterned papers from the lovely Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘Sunkissed’ collection. The different pieces were all raised on foam pads to add dimension.

Once I placed the cut file on my white cardstock background I realised it needed something more behind it to ground it and help it stand out more. So I added a smooshy teal background using the packaging technique and some lovely shimmery watercolour paints from my stash. Then I finished off with lots of splatters… and once dry, I stitched it using gold thread to a frame of yellow cardstock.

I tucked my photo, which was mounted on one of the patterned papers from the collection in just behind the bottom right flower on the cut file.

I picked out some of the fun coordinating ephemera, clear stickers and gold hearts from and created two embellishment clusters to the bottom left of the cut file and bottom right of my photo. Because I wanted some of the clear stickers to be stuck over some of my photo and the cut file I stuck them onto white cardstock first and then fussy cut around them. This helps them stand out more an allows you to layer them.

Then I finished off with a title using two different Thickers alphas from my stash and of course added some journaling below my photo.

Sunshine and Ice-cream | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! I’m here with a summer themed layout and I used the very appropriate ‘Soft Serve’ cut file which you can find here in the shop. It was perfect to go with my ice-cream photo from our week away last September in Mundesley on the Norfolk coast here in the UK.

To go with my holiday theme I used the colourful new Simple Stories ‘Sunkissed’ collection. I used one of the patterned papers with the wave design as my background, firstly trimming it down slightly and then distressing the edges before attaching to a frame of white cardstock.

I decided to have double ice-cream cones to replicate my photo so cut two the same size in white cardstock. I picked one of the patterned papers in a soft peach ombre to back the cone part of my cut file, but first I ran the paper through my Big Shot using an embossing folder with lots of small uneven squares all over it so that it ended up looking like the texture of an ice-cream cone. I think it looked pretty realistic! I then cut two pieces of the embossed patterned paper to fit the cone part of the ice-cream cone and attached them using foam pads to add some dimension.

For one of the cut file cones I backed the ice-cream part with some vellum, again raised up on foam pads and then added one of the bright pink patterned papers behind that. I used the vellum first to tone it down slightly and give it a more frosty look. I just had to add a large enamel dot to look like a cherry!

For the second cut file I wanted to create a shaker pocket using some fun coloured sprinkles (they look like hundreds and thousands!) from Little Things. I stuck some clear plastic packaging to the back of the ice-cream part of the cut file, then added strips of foam pads all around the edges before filling with the sprinkles! I backed it with some white cardstock to lock them all in…

Then I layered the two cut files centrally to my background and stuck down, before tucking in my square photo that was mounted onto one of the coordinating striped papers.

I added two embellishment clusters, a larger one to the bottom right of the layout and a smaller one at the top of the right ice-cream cut file and used lots of fun coordinating stickers and enamel dots from the collection.

My title is a combination of the ‘Sunshine’ sticker from the ‘Sunkissed’ sticker sheet and some other alphas from my stash. I tucked in a cute sun and some enamel dots just above the title which created my third focal point to balance the layout. A few lines of journaling and I was done!

Snow Much Fun | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! I’m back with a wintery layout featuring one of the fab title cut files from the shop. This one called ‘Snow Much Fun’ was perfect for my photos from the one day of decent snow that we had in January! I cut it reasonably large but not too big so that it allowed me to add a photo on either side.

I backed the letters using one of the pretty papers from the Maggie Holmes ‘Garden Party’ collection which is definitely not a winter collection but by choosing the right papers worked perfectly! I used sticky foam pads to attach the backing so that I created some additional dimension.

For my background I used a pretty pink grid patterned paper and added some gold stitching as a border. Then I added some white paint splatters under where I knew the cut file to sit as it created a snowy like finish. I added some gold stitching to the snowflake before backing it with some vellum and then one of the papers to create more of a translucent look to it.

Once the cut file was stuck down I then added my photos on either side. They were both mounted on coordinating patterned paper with lightly distressed edges and then layered with some matching tags.

Then I created an embellishment cluster around each photo using vellum ephemera, gold and pink hearts, clear glass drops and some pink bow stickers. I punched out some small snowflakes using an old Martha Stewart punch and added a large glass drop to the centre of each one.

To finish off I added a fun icicle Perspextive from Bramble Fox between the words ‘MUCH’ and ‘FUN’.

Spring Flowers | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! It’s Kirei here with another layout featuring one of the lovely new March release cut files called Daffodil Posie which can be found here in the shop. As we are still in lockdown here in the UK and I am working from home I take a lunchtime walk around the neighbourhood each day and it’s so lovely seeing the new spring flowers coming out… which of course I have to photograph!

This is a much simpler layout than my usual as normally I like to use quite a lot of embellishments but this time I let the cut file and photos do it on their own! I used the lovely new Pinkfresh Studio ‘Keeping it Real’ collection as it had the perfect yellow patterned paper to use as a frame for my white cardstock background. Once stuck down I stitched around the inner edge with a light teal thread.

I used vellum to create a translucent backing and I stuck it directly to the cut file. Then I decided I needed the leaves to have some colour so behind the vellum I backed the leaves with one of the teal green patterned papers. The teal was quite a strong colour so having the vellum there just toned it down enough to add contrast but not be too bold.

Then I added some pretty shimmery yellow paint to the background using the packaging technique. I wanted to add enough of the yellow so that it would show through the backed daffodil cut file to represent the yellow of the flowers. I dried it off and then added lots of splatters.

I used sticky foam pads to back the cut file before attaching it to the painted background.

My two photos were mounted onto a couple of different patterned papers, the edges were distressed and then I attached these to the right of my layout.

To finish off I added a title, some enamel dots and my journaling.

Magical Memories | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! Kirei here with my second layout for the month featuring an older cut file called Squares Cubed that can be found here in the shop. It’s one I have wanted to use for a while so decided it was perfect to go with my Disney photo and the Simple Stories ‘Say Cheese Main Street’ collection.

After using a black cut file on my last layout I decided to try cutting this one from patterned paper rather than just white cardstock. I cut out 9 of the different square designs (but did end up using only 8) from a black and white spotted paper.

Then I backed them all with different coloured patterned papers from the same collection. Some were raised up on foam pads and some were stuck directly to the cut file so that I got different levels of dimension onto the layout.

It was all quite bold but as my photo is bright and was in traditional 6″x 4″ size (rather than the smaller 3″ x 4″ that I often use) I decided it worked well!

For my layout background I cut a sheet of white cardstock down to 11 1/2″ square, stuck it to a frame of black card and then stitched around the edges in bright yellow thread.

I placed my backed cut file squares onto the layout along with my backed photo and once I was happy with the placement I stuck them all down.

Then I added embellishment clusters above and below the photo all using ephemera and stickers from the same collection.

To finish off I added a coordinating Thickers title, lots of enamel dots and my journaling.

Real Life | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! Kirei back again with my first layout share for March and we were challenged to use a black cut file which was something I don’t tend to do but I loved how it really popped from the layout! I used the Star Cluster cut file which you can find here in the shop and as I didn’t actually have any black cardstock I cut it in white and then had to paint it with some black gesso that I had!

I used an older Pink Paislee collection called ‘5th and Monaco’ from my stash to go with the cut file and I think it was a perfect contrast with all the bright pinks, oranges and lime greens against the black! I backed all the stars with different patterned papers that I raised on foam pads to add dimension.

For my background I went a bit crazy with some Distress Oxides in matching colours that I splattered all over the white cardstock in roughly the same area that the cut file was going. I then trimmed the white cardstock down slightly and mounted it onto a frame that I made up of different strips of the patterned paper (mainly because I didn’t have a full piece of patterned paper left!). I added a doodled black border around the edge of the white cardstock just to bring in some black.

I stuck down my backed Star Cluster cut file onto the background and then added my photo which I had mounted onto some patterned paper. Next to the photo I added a card from one of the cut apart sheets, distressing the edges first.

Then I added coordinating ephemera and puffy stickers to the left of my photo, to the left of the Happiness card and at the bottom right of the layout. I then dotted lots of coloured sequins in and around the cut file to add some sparkle!

I finished off with a gold title that I mounted on some patterned paper though wish I had had some more of the bright pink paper left as I think it would have shown up a bit better than it did!

Craft a Happy Life | Kirei Baldwin

Hi CUT to YOU fans! Kirei here with a layout celebrating our fab hobby! This ‘Craft a Happy Life’ cut file was perfect to go with this photo of me and my scrapping bestie Niki when we were teaching at a weekend crop in 2019… we’ve been running them online through 2020 so can’t wait until we can get together again!

I wanted to use lots of bright colours to go with the cut file so went with the fab Paige Evans ‘Go the Scenic Route’ collection. Firstly I created my background using a floral patterned paper to frame the white cardstock and then used some sparkly pink metallic thread to stitch a border detail around all four sides.

I took the ‘Craft a Happy Life’ title cut file and backed each letter with different coordinating patterned papers.

Then I backed the paintbrush pot cut file with patterned papers but this time I used foam pads to create some dimension.

Then I attached both of these to the layout background so that I could start to build up all the other details around them.

Firstly I added my 4″ square photo that I had mounted onto different pieces of distressed patterned papers. I tucked it just under the top of the title and then raised it on foam pads at the top edge.

From here I built up a large floral cluster around the top left of the photo using lots of fussy cut flowers and leaves. I added in a few puffy hearts and sparkly enamel dots.

I added a second floral cluster to the bottom right of the paintbrush pot along with a fussy cut butterfly and some hearts and enamel dots.

There was the perfect space to add some journaling under the paintbrush pot.

Finally I embellished the ‘Craft a Happy Life’ title with some soarkly enamel dots and flowers and a few fussy cut butterflies!

I love how this turned out, all the bright colours make me feel happy! Thanks so much for stopping by!
